There are a lot of video game adaptations in the works, and here’s a big update on one of them! According to Deadline, Prime Video’s Fallout adaptation is moving forward and has cast Walton Goggins of Justified and The Righteous Gemstones (pictured above), reportedly (though not confirmed) for the character Ghoul.

We first heard about the Fallout adaptation way back in July 2020 when Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy were producing the project. Things were quiet on the Fallout front until early this year when Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner were announced as co-showrunners.

With Goggins’ casting news, the project appears to be ramping up even more. Deadline is also reporting that Nolan will direct the premiere episode, confirming his ongoing participation in the project.

If you need help parsing out what this show is about compared to the other video game adaptations out there (Exhibit A: Halo; Exhibit B: The Last of Us), Fallout takes place in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world. The original 1997 game focused on a vault dweller who has to do some vault repairs while fighting off mutants.

Goggins is reportedly playing Ghoul, which is the in-world nickname for humans who have been exposed to too much nuclear radiation and become covered with lesions and rotting skin. If Deadline is correct, Goggins is most likely one of these characters, and might be spending a lot of time in the makeup and prosthetics chair.

No news on when Fallout will start production or make its way to Prime Video.
